A new laptop with a broken screen. What's the options?
Most A3449 owners have had the laptop for less than a year, so the first question is usually about Apple's warranty. Here's the honest view for our customers. So,
Apple's stand for one year warranty and only covers manufacturing faults. It does not cover accidental damage. A cracked screen, pressure damage from a bag, a drop, none of that is covered unless you bought AppleCare+. If you did buy AppleCare+, go to Apple first. The screen will cost you the accidental damage fee, which is less than any independent repair.
If you don't have AppleCare+, Apple will still fix it, but as an out of warranty repair. On this model that usually means replacing the whole display assembly, and the price reflects that. We won't quote Apple's figure here because it changes, but it's worth a call to compare against 1250.
One more thing, since people ask. If we replace your screen and something unrelated goes wrong later example the logic boar here you can understand Apple may ask about non Apple service when you take it in. but MacTech Pro Our repair uses an original Apple panel and doesn't touch the board, but we'd rather you know that conversation can come up than find out later. Making sure it's the A3449
The A3449 is the 13 inch MacBook Air with the M5 chip, released in 2026. From the outside it's the same design Apple has used since the M2 Air in 2022: flat lid, notch at the top of the screen, MagSafe on the left, two Thunderbolt ports.
That means three older models look identical:
Same size, same display specification, different model number. Turn the laptop over and read the small print along the bottom edge of the base. If it says A3449, this page is for you. If it says one of the others, we repair those too, but check the relevant page or ask us, because the price can differ.
You can also open the Apple menu and click About This Mac. Apple M5 under Chip, 13 inch, is the A3449.

Apple measures the 13.6 inches as if the screen were a plain rectangle. The rounded top corners and the notch mean the actual viewable area is slightly less, which is true of every Air since 2022 and not something to worry about.
After the repair we put your display scaling back to whatever you had. If you're not sure, the default is 1470 x 956.

Why this is 1250 AED when the M1 Air is 850
both has different panel. The M1 Air (A2337) has a 13.3 inch 400 nit display with square corners and no notch. The A3449 has a 13.6 inch 500 nit panel with rounded top corners, a notch cut for the camera, and support for a billion colours rather than millions. It's also a 2026 part, and new panels cost more from Apple's supply chain than panels for a five year old laptop.
Labour on the two is similar. The price gap is come from part, and we'd rather show you where the money goes than round both prices to something that looks tidy.
Original Apple panel only
We fit original Apple panels on the A3449. No aftermarket option.
This is a new laptop. Its screen is one of the main reasons it cost what it did. An aftermarket panel on a five year old M1 Air is a compromise. An aftermarket panel on a laptop you bought a few months ago is a downgrade you'll notice every day. Cooler whites, weaker reds, brightness that doesn't quite get there, True Tone that misbehaves. And in our experience, more failures in the first months.
If you're offered a much cheaper screen replacement for this model, ask what panel it is and ask to see the part. On a 2026 laptop, we think original is the only sensible answer.
We replace the panel, not the lid
When the screen on an A3449 breaks, the lid, hinges, display cables, antenna and the 12MP camera in the notch are almost always fine. A full display assembly replacement throws all of that away and charges you for it.
We open the lid, take out the damaged panel, and fit a new one. Your camera stays where it is. Your hinges, your lid, your cables all stay. It's more careful work than swapping the entire assembly, but it's why we can do this for 1250 rather than the price of a whole new lid.
If the lid is bent from a drop and a panel won't sit flat, we'll say so before we start, not after.
Original Apple adhesive tape
The A3449 panel is held in with pre-cut adhesive strips shaped to the display housing. They're made to handle heat and to hold the panel with even pressure along every edge.
Some shops use liquid glue or generic double sided tape instead. It's faster and it's nearly free. It also gives up in UAE heat. Leave the laptop in a car in July and the corner of the panel starts to lift. Dust gets under the edge. Sometimes a hairline crack follows.
We use the original strips. They take longer to apply and cost more. They're part of the 1250.
True Tone after the repair
Works.
On Apple silicon MacBooks the True Tone calibration lives on the display panel. Swap the panel without moving that data and the True Tone toggle vanishes from System Settings with no warning. We transfer the calibration during the repair, so the option is there and behaves as it did when the laptop was new.
If you ever get a MacBook back from a repair and True Tone is gone, that's the reason.
What we see on the new Airs
The 2022 onwards Air is thin, light, and gets carried everywhere. That shows in the damage.
Pressure is the big one. Something hard pressed against the lid in a bag. A charger, a bottle, a book on top of the laptop. No mark on the outside, but when you open it there's a dark patch spreading from one spot, or coloured lines, or a band of the display that's gone black.
Second is closing the lid on something. The gap between the keys and the glass on this model is almost nothing, so an earbud or a cable end left on the keyboard cracks the panel exactly where it sat.
Third is drops, usually on a corner. That cracks the glass and sometimes bends the lid. We check the lid before quoting.
Occasionally a panel fails with no damage at all. Flicker, a dim edge, lines that appear when the lid is at a certain angle. That last one is often the display cable rather than the panel, and the price is different, so we check before charging anything.
How the repair goes, and how long it takes
Two to three hours. The panel swap is the quick part. The adhesive setting and the testing take the time.
Drop off in the morning, collect after lunch. Drop off after lunch, collect before we close.
- Photos of the laptop from every side, with you watching if you're in the shop, so the arriving condition is on record.
- We confirm it's the panel and not the cable or the logic board. No charge.
- Lid opened, damaged panel out, old adhesive cleaned off completely. Rushing this is why some replaced screens sit crooked or lift later.
- True Tone data moved to the new panel.
- Original Apple panel fitted with original Apple adhesive strips, pressed and left to set.
- Testing. Brightness from minimum to maximum, colour uniformity, True Tone on and off, the Center Stage camera, the lid sleep sensor, and the hinge through its full travel.
- After photos taken and sent to you on WhatsApp with the before set.

If the panel we fitted develops a fault in the first three months, we fix it. Dead pixels, lines, flicker, backlight faults, the display lifting at an edge. Bring it back.
It doesn't cover new damage: a fresh crack, a bent lid, liquid inside. If something comes up, we'll show you what we're looking at and tell you plainly which side of the line it's on.
What to ask any shop before handing over a 2026 MacBook Air
Is the panel original Apple, and will they show you the part? Are they replacing the panel or the whole lid, and is the quote for the one you need? What holds the panel in, adhesive strips or glue? Will True Tone still work, and will they write that on the receipt? Is the price the full price? Can you watch, or at least get photos before and after?
