Which MacBook is the A2338?
The A2338 is the 13 inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Apple silicon. Two generations share this model number:
Apple didn't change the display, the lid, or the housing between them, so the screen part and the repair are identical. If your laptop has an Apple chip and a Touch Bar, it's an A2338.
To confirm, turn it over and look at the small print near the bottom edge of the base. It will say "Model A2338". If the print has worn off, open the Apple menu, then About This Mac. Apple M1 or Apple M2 under Chip, with a 13 inch screen and a Touch Bar, means A2338.
Two lookalikes to be aware of. The Intel 13 inch Pro from 2020 comes in two versions, the A2289 (two Thunderbolt ports) and the A2251 (four ports). From the outside they are hard to tell from the A2338. The screens are not the same part and the price is different, so please check the model number before booking.
The A2338 came in Space Grey and Silver. We keep panels for both.

Why this repair is 950 AED and the Air is 850
People sometimes ask why the 13 inch Pro screen costs 100 AED more than the M1 Air when the two laptops look so similar. The answer is the panel. The Pro display runs at 500 nits, the Air at 400, and the Pro panel is a more expensive part to buy from Apple's supply chain. The labour is roughly the same. The difference is all in the LCD.
We'd rather explain that than pad the Air price up to match.

Panel only, not the whole lid
This is worth understanding because it's the main reason our price is where it is.
When the A2338 screen breaks, the part that's actually broken is the LCD panel. The aluminium lid, the hinges, the display cables, the FaceTime camera and the antenna are almost always fine. Apple and some shops replace the entire display assembly as one unit, which means you're paying for all of those working parts again.
We replace the panel and keep the rest. Your camera stays, your hinges stay, the lid you've had since day one stays. It takes more skill to do it this way and it takes a bit longer, but the price comes down and you're not throwing away parts that work.
The exception is if the lid is bent or the hinge is damaged from a drop. In that case a panel alone won't sit flat, and we'll tell you before starting.
Original Apple LCD only
We fit original Apple panels on the A2338. We don't offer an aftermarket option on this model, and we'd rather explain why than pretend the cheaper ones don't exist.
The 13 inch Pro is bought by people who work on it all day. Designers, video editors, developers, people staring at spreadsheets for eight hours. On a screen like that, the small differences in an aftermarket panel are noticeable. Slightly cooler whites. Reds that sit a touch flat. Brightness that doesn't quite reach 500 nits at the top of the slider. True Tone that doesn't behave.
Then there's reliability. The aftermarket panels we've handled showed problems within months more often than originals. Lines, uneven backlight, a corner that goes slightly yellow.
For 950 AED you get the same panel Apple would fit, in a repair that keeps the rest of your lid. That's the trade we think makes sense.
Original adhesive tape, not glue
Apple holds the A2338 panel in place with pre-cut adhesive strips shaped to the display housing. They're designed to take heat and hold the panel with the same pressure across all four edges.
Plenty of shops swap those for liquid glue or a roll of generic double sided tape. It's quicker and it costs almost nothing. It also fails in the UAE heat. A laptop left in a car in August, or in a bag in the sun, softens that glue. The panel lifts at a corner. Dust gets in. Sometimes a hairline crack follows the lifted edge.
We use the original strips. They cost more and take longer to apply properly. They're part of the 950.
True Tone after the replacement
It works. We make sure of it.
On Apple silicon MacBooks, the True Tone calibration is stored on the display panel itself. Replace the panel without transferring that data and the True Tone toggle disappears from System Settings. Nothing warns you. It's just gone.
We transfer the calibration during the repair, so in the feature macbook behaves exactly as it did before. If any shop hands you back an A2338 without True Tone in the settings, they skipped this step.

The damage we usually see on the 13 inch Pro
Because the A2338 tends to be a work machine, it spends a lot of time in bags and gets opened and closed many times a day. That shows up in the kinds of screen damage that come through our door.
The most common is a crack from something left on the keyboard when the lid was closed. An AirPod, a pen, the end of a cable. The lid on this model closes tight against the keys, so there's no room for anything in between.
Second is pressure with no visible crack. A charger pushed against the lid in a backpack, or a laptop at the bottom of a bag with heavy things on top. You open it and there's a dark bloom spreading from one spot, or coloured lines running top to bottom, or a section of the display that stays black.
Third is a drop on a corner, which often cracks the panel and sometimes bends the lid. If the lid is bent we'll check whether the panel can sit properly before quoting.
Occasionally a panel fails without any damage. Flicker, a dim strip along one edge, or a backlight that only lights half the screen. We check whether that's the panel or the display cable before charging anything, because the fix and the price are different.
How the repair goes
Two to three hours. Most of that is the adhesive setting properly and the testing at the end.
Morning drop-off means ready after lunch. Afternoon drop-off means ready before we close.
- Photos of the laptop from every angle, with you watching if you're in the shop, so there's a record of the condition it arrived in.
- Fault check. We confirm it's the panel and not the cable or the backlight circuit. No charge for this.
- Lid opened, damaged panel removed, old adhesive cleaned off completely. If this step is rushed the new panel sits crooked or lifts later.
- True Tone data moved from the old panel to the new one.
- Original panel fitted with original Apple adhesive strips, pressed and left to set.
- Testing: brightness sweep from minimum to maximum, colour uniformity, True Tone on and off, FaceTime camera, lid sleep sensor, hinge through the full range.
- After photos taken and sent to you on WhatsApp with the before set.

Pickup and delivery
At MacTech Pro we provide pickup and delivery Anywhere in Dubai, free. Business Bay, Downtown, DIFC, Dubai Marina, JLT, Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Barsha, Silicon Oasis, Jumeirah, Al Quoz, Karama, Mirdif, International City, Motor City, Sports City. The driver photographs the laptop with you at handover, brings it to the workshop, and returns it the same day if the repair finishes in time or the next morning if its not.
For Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, we book a courier and cover the cost. You hand the laptop to the courier and we take it from there. Door to door is usually two working days.
The 3 month warranty
If the panel we fitted develops a fault within three months, we fix it. That includes dead pixels, lines, flicker, backlight faults, and the display lifting at an edge.
What it doesn't include is new damage. A fresh crack from a knock, a bent lid from a drop, liquid inside. If something comes up we'll show you what we're seeing and tell you plainly which side of the line it's on.
