Which 14 inch Pro is the A2779?
The A2779 is the second generation 14 inch MacBook Pro, released in January 2023 with the M2 Pro or M2 Max chip. Apple kept the same body as the 2021 model: notch, HDMI, SD card slot, MagSafe, three Thunderbolt ports. These changes were inside. Faster chip, HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6E.
Because the body didn't change, the A2779 is easy to confuse with the 14 inch models before and after it. The model number is printed on the underside of the base, in the small text near the bottom edge. It's also worth knowing the neighbours:

Why the A2779 and the 2021 A2442 are the same price
Same panel. Apple didn't change the 14 inch display between the M1 Pro and M2 Pro generations. These model has Same mini-LED backlight, same 3024 x 1964 resolution, same 1000 nits sustained and 1600 peak, same 120Hz ProMotion. The part costs us the same, so the repair costs you the same.
The M3 generation that followed did change the panel slightly, which is why the A2918 and A2992 are priced a little higher. More on that in the specification section below.

The one number that separates this panel from the M3 generation is SDR brightness. The A2779 runs everyday content at up to 500 nits. The M3 models that came later run it at up to 600. HDR peak is the same 1600 on both. If you're comparing pages, that's making difference.

Testing a mini-LED panel properly
A normal brightness check doesn't tell you much about a mini-LED screen. Two extra things have to be done and at MacTech Pro we do both on every A2779 before it goes back.
Local dimming. The backlight is split into zones that light up independently. A replacement panel with a dead zone will look fine on a bright desktop and wrong the moment you watch a film. We run a black screen with small bright shapes moving across it and watch the backlight follow. Every zone has to respond, and none of them can flicker at low brightness.
HDR and ProMotion. Desktop use never pushes the panel past 500 nits, so we play HDR content to confirm it actually reaches its peak. Then we check the refresh rate is switching, from 24Hz on video up to 120Hz when scrolling. A panel stuck at 60Hz or refusing HDR mode isn't a good replacement, whatever it looks like on the home screen.
While we're on the subject: a faint glow around a bright object on a black background, like a white cursor on a dark screen, is normal for mini-LED. It's called blooming, the original panel did it, and it's not a fault.
Original Apple panel only
At MacTech Pro we fit original Apple mini-LED panels only for the MacBook Pro 14 inch M2 Pro and M2 Max A2779 screen replacement. We don't offer an aftermarket option because we haven't found one that matches the dimming zone count, reaches the same peak brightness, or lasts. The few aftermarket XDR panels around have more early failures than aftermarket panels for cheaper models, and on a laptop bought for its screen that's not a trade worth making.
If you see another shop this repair offered well under 1550, ask whether the panel is mini-LED with ProMotion and ask them to show you 120Hz and HDR working before you pay.
At our MacTech Pro We replace the panel and keep the lid
Apple and many shops swap the whole display assembly on this model included lid, hinges, cables, antenna, the 1080p camera in the notch, panel, all in one piece. Nearly all of those parts are fine when a screen breaks. You'd be paying to bin a working camera and a working lid.
We take out the panel and fit a new one inside your existing lid. Camera stays in the notch. Hinges stay. Cables stay. It's slower and needs more care than an assembly swap, but it's why the price is 1550 and not the price of a new lid.
If the lid is bent from a drop and a panel won't sit flat, we'll tell you before starting.
Original Apple adhesive, not glue
The A2779 panel is held in with pre-cut adhesive strips shaped to the display housing. They're made for heat and they hold the panel with even pressure along all four edges.
Liquid glue or generic double sided tape is faster and almost free. It's also what gives up when a laptop sits in a car in a Dubai summer. The panel lifts at a corner, dust gets in, and on mini-LED an uneven edge can stress the backlight layer and show as a bright or dark band along that side.

True Tone and ProMotion
You can see true tone and promotion -Both work after the repair.
True Tone calibration on Apple silicon MacBooks is stored on the display panel. If a shop replaces the panel without transferring that data, the True Tone toggle disappears from System Settings. We move the calibration to the new panel, so the option is there and behaves as it did.
ProMotion comes with the original panel. Fit a real Apple mini-LED panel and 120Hz works. We confirm it in testing rather than assume it.
The damage we see on the A2779
This laptop gets carried and travel inside your bag. It's the machine people take to client sites, on flights, and between office and home. Most of the damage comes from transport.
Pressure damage and liquid spilling is the most common damage. A charger or drive pressed against the lid in a bag, or the laptop at the bottom of a stack. No mark outside, but inside there's a dark bloom, or coloured lines, or a region of the panel gone black. On mini-LED this sometimes shows as a patch where the backlight works but the image doesn't.
Then the lid closed on something. The gap between keys and glass is tiny An earbud, a cable end, a pen. The crack starts there.
Then corner drops which crack the panel and can bend the lid.
And occasionally a panel fails without damage. A dimming zone stuck dark, a strip along one edge noticeably dimmer, flicker at low brightness. We check whether that's the panel, the cable or the logic board before charging anything.

3 month warranty
If the panel we fitted develops a fault within three months, we fix it. Dead pixels, lines, a dimming zone that stops working, flicker, backlight faults, the display lifting at an edge.
